Hamilton School Board approves employee contracts
The Hamilton School Board approved contracts for several employee groups at its regular meeting July 18. Following ratification from United Lakewood Educators – Hamilton, the School Board approved a two-year contact that will provide a 4.1 percent increase in salaries and benefits for each of the next two years. The teachers’ group that represents licensed teachers and staff members agreed to health insurance concessions that allowed for salary increases among its ranks. The concessions included doubling of health insurance deductibles and employee-paid emergency room co-payments. Changes in the teacher salary schedule capped salaries for those who have not attained a master’s degree — providing incentives for teachers to obtain advanced degrees.
Confidential support staff members also saw a 4.1 percent increase in salary and benefits while the administrators’ package increased 4 percent. Confidential staff members include various technical and managerial positions. The School Board approves contracts for both groups on a yearly basis, and the health insurance concessions were accepted last year. The concessions remain in place for them.
Furrer recognizes parent
Hamilton High School Principal David Furrer recognized parent Pam Mehring for her leadership role in Project Graduation, a fun and drug-free party for Hamilton graduates. Mehring has been on the committee that coordinates the event for six years and was chair for the past three years. She will serve one more year as chair.
Personnel changes OK’d
In personnel business, the School Board:
- approved a leave of absence for Maple Avenue third grade teacher Diana Ruiz;
- accepted the resignations of Hamilton student supervisor Ellen Acuff, Marcy second grade teacher Sara Hackbarth, Lannon reading specialist Lettye Bertram;
- appointed Megan Woodkey as a Marcy cognitive disabilities teacher, Erin Everson as a Templeton sixth grade math and science teacher, Cynthia Rossman as the accounts payable administrative assistant, and Katherine Krzys as the Public Information Office executive assistant;
- recalled from lay-off Willow Springs kindergarten teacher Lynn Richmond, Woodside first grade teacher Rebecca McGinley and Marcy fourth grade teacher Pam Biron.
