Benefits Package Recommendations approved
Board members approved employee benefit package recommendations. To balance rising healthcare costs with the district’s commitment to offering competitive compensation, three strategic adjustments to current insurance plans were recommended. Adjustments include streamlining dental offerings, adjusting health plan deductibles and modifying the employee premium share. Current deductible levels sit significantly below regional and school district benchmarks. Modifying the deductibles allows the district to realize a savings while aligning more closely with surrounding school districts.
Partnership with Care Solace approved
Board members approved a continued partnership with mental health resources provider Care Solace for the 2026-27 school year. The partnership helps expedite mental health services for students and staff. Participants saw their wait time for appointments drop from several months to a few weeks. The partnership is a major resource for families and a program that continues to have a significant impact.
Character Strong Program approved
Board members approved renewal of Character Strong for grades 5–8 for the 2026–27 school year. Character Strong provides lessons in self-management, relationship skills and responsible decision-making.
Purchase of additional security cameras approved
Board members approved the purchase of an additional 88 security cameras across all eight schools. District administrators conducted a comprehensive security camera evaluation across all buildings. The purchase of these additional cameras will help to bring the district inline with the amount of cameras currently used in neighboring districts. Cameras will be funded using remaining available referendum dollars.
Chapter 220 down to 3 students
A total of 3 students will continue to participate in the Chapter 220 Voluntary Integration Program in the 2025-26 school year. The state began phasing out the program approximately 10 years ago, only funding students who were already in the program. Chapter 220 is a state-funded voluntary integration program that brings Milwaukee Public Schools students to suburban districts. Before legislators phased out the program, as many as 110 Milwaukee students attended the District.
