Hamilton High School students presented

Hamilton High School students addressed board members to provide an overview of school activities and events. They spoke about the record number of students who took AP tests this spring and also mentioned how well the prom went this year. Finally, students invited everyone to the graduation ceremony which will take place on Friday, June 7.

Final 2024-25 budget approved

School Board members approved an $80.8 million budget that will be presented to voters at the Annual Meeting on August 19.

The mill rate is projected to be $7.13 per $1,000 of equalized property value. That is 22 cents higher than the current year. For each $100,000 of property owned, citizens will pay, on average, $713 to support local school taxes. The budget is 9.34% more than the current budget and assumes property values will increase 6% and state aid will increase 2.31%.

Board Officers elected

School Board members elected Brian Schneider as their president, Rachel Ziemer as vice president, Dawn Van Aacken as clerk and John Castillo as treasurer.

Additional teaching staff approved

An additional special education teacher is recommended at Willow Spring Learning Center to address projected enrollment needs for the 2024-25 school year.

Professional Development Plan approved

School Board members approved the 2024-25 Professional Development Forecast from Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning Catherine Drago and Teaching and Learning Coordinator Whitney Roth. Professional learning opportunities allow teachers to continue developing their teaching skills and subject knowledge.

Chapter 220 down to 3 students

A total of 3 students will continue to participate in the Chapter 220 Voluntary Integration Program in the 2024-25 school year. The state began phasing out the program approximately 9 years ago, only funding students who were already in the program. Chapter 220 is a state-funded voluntary integration program that brings Milwaukee Public Schools students to suburban districts. Before Legislators phased out the program, as many as 110 Milwaukee students attended the District.

Reports and documents approved

Several reports and documents were reviewed and approved including:

  • Updated Preliminary 2024-25 Staffing Plan
  • Curriculum Resource Purchases for Grades K-5 Math
  • District Library Plan for 2024-2028
  • Non-Group Salary Recommendations for Summer School and Seasonal Positions 2024-25
  • Revised Board Policies

Personnel matters

School Board members approved the appointments of:

  • Mitchell Lahmann, School Social Worker at Templeton Middle and Silver Spring Intermediate Schools, effective August 26
  • Sara Pierce, Special Education Teacher at Templeton Middle School, effective August 26
  • Megan Henry, Grade 4 Teacher at Marcy Elementary School, effective August 26
  • Hannah Bjorklund, Grade 7 Teacher at Templeton Middle School, effective August 26

School Board members approved the retirements of:

  • Cheryl Leiden, Paraprofessional – Instructional and Supervision at Marcy Elementary School, effective end of school year

School Board members approved the resignations of:

  • Valerie Trauner, Paraprofessional Special Services at Willow Springs Learning Center, effective end of school year
  • Katie Gritzmacher, Paraprofessional – Special Services at Woodside Elementary School, effective end of school year
  • Marisa Depke, Grade 1 teacher at Woodside Elementary School, effective end of the school year
  • Leigh Metoxen, Paraprofessional – Special Services at Lannon Elementary School, effective end of school year
