The School Board accepted a report and recommendations from the Community Facility Advisory Committee (CFAC) to hold referendums April 2 seeking voter approval to:
- Fund district-wide safety and site improvements, building updates and capital maintenance including:
- renovations for technical education, science, and art classrooms at Hamilton High School and construction of an addition to the cafeteria/commons area;
- renovations at Templeton Middle School; and,
- renovations and construction of an addition at Lannon Elementary School.
- Fund operational and maintenance expenses that will help to maintain current class sizes, staffing levels, academic programs, course offerings and services.
The CFAC is a group of approximately 50 individuals – community members, parents, staff, administrators and Board members – that review subdivision growth, enrollment, space utilization inside schools and physical condition of the facilities. The group met in 2021, 2022 and 2023 to study options to address funding and capacity concerns.
Over the last two years, more than 5,000 survey responses have been submitted by community members, allowing their voices to be heard and significantly impacting the decision-making process of the Committee and the Board of Education.
Hamilton School Board members took the final steps to complete the legal process of placing a referendum on the April 2, 2024 spring election ballot.
Board members passed resolutions that:
- authorized general obligation bonds of $25 million for facilities projects;
- established the amount of $7.6 million for recurring operational expenses; and
- approved a referendum election for two questions – one for facilities projects and the other to exceed state revenue limits for recurring operational costs.
