School Board members recognized

Winners of the April 4 School Board election Katie Streblow and Tom Lodzinski were officially sworn in. Jay Jones and Mike Hyland were recognized for their years of service to the Hamilton School Board.

Willow Springs Learning Center in Spotlight

Willow Springs Learning Center Principal Dr. Renae MacCudden presented a School Spotlight video highlighting an imaginative play area called Willow Town.

Silver Spring Intermediate School clubs highlighted

Silver Spring Intermediate School Principal Deanna Wellens, Associate Principal Susan Schramka and several students spoke to Board members about the wide variety of clubs offered at school and presented a School Spotlight video.

Additional nurse approved

The administration recommends increasing nursing FTE by .55 (143 days) for the 2023-24 school year to meet student needs.

Budget draft presented

Every year the Hamilton School Board reviews a first draft of the District’s budget in spring. In May, a final budget to present at the Annual Meeting will be approved.

  • The mill rate is projected to decrease by $0.15 to $7.55.
  • The $525,000 over expenditure is for capital projects to be completed.
  • The budget is built based on the Governor’s request of a $350 increase per pupil and a 40% reimbursement rate for special education. The state will not finalize the budget process until late Spring or Summer. 

Student fees, lunch prices to remain the same

Student fees and lunch prices will remain the same for the 2023-24 school year. The School Board took the recommendation to keep prices at current levels. The District will also extend its contract with Kemps Dairy for the 2023-24 school year.

Board meeting calendar approved

School Board members approved their 2023-24 meeting schedule. Board meetings will be held on July 17, Aug.21, Sept. 18, Oct. 3, Oct. 16, Nov. 20, Dec. 18, Jan. 22, February 19, March 5, March 18, April 15, May 7, May 20, June 4, June 24 and July 22.

Reports, documents approved

Several reports and documents were approved including:

  • grades 7-12 Math Pathways course offerings;
  • high school “Introduction to Healthcare Professions” new curriculum documents;
  • high school “Advanced Photography 2” new curriculum documents;
  • high school “Advanced Theatre and Performance” new curriculum documents;
  • high school “AP 3-D Art and Design” course modification for 2024-25;
  • high school “Geometry Concepts” course modification for 2024-25;
  • draft agenda for Aug. 21, 2023 Annual Meeting; and
  • Proposed WIAA By-Laws Revisions and Instructions to Delegate Report

  • David White, Custodian I, p.m. at Woodside Elementary School, effective April 10; 
  • Ashley Lesko, Special Education Teacher at Maple Avenue Elementary School, effective August 23; 
  • Kristina Bova, Grade 6 Math & Science Teacher at Silver Spring Intermediate School, effective August 23;
  • Jennifer Weisgerber, Grade 7 Teacher at Templeton Middle School, effective August 28; 
  • Donelle Russell, Special Education Teacher at Templeton Middle School, effective August 23;
