School Board President Kolesari to resign

Hamilton School Board President Gabe Kolesari announced his resignation effective April 1, 2023, due to medical reasons. Kolesari has been a member of the School Board for the past 34 years and served as Board president for the past 21 years.

Additional special education paraprofessional approved

Additional paraprofessional staff recommended at Maple Avenue Elementary School to provide additional classroom support. (.70 FTE)

Marcy Elementary School in Spotlight

Marcy Elementary School Principal Michele Trawicki presented a School Spotlight video highlighting the Kindergarten’s ‘Around the World in 180 Days’ program. Kindergarteners are learning about different locations and cultures all over the world. A grant from Hamilton Education Foundation made this program possible.

Summer Opportunities recommendations approved

Mr. Cody Leland and Ms. Susan Schramka presented recommendations for the 2023 Summer Opportunities program. The biggest change is an increase in shuttle bussing fees. In an effort to offset the actual cost of transportation, shuttle bussing fees will increase from $20 to $110 dollars this summer. 

Contract approved for co-op services through Elmbrook 

The District signed a cooperative agreement with Elmbrook Schools which will provide services for students with hearing, visual and mobility impairments. The agreement with Elmbrook allows us to service students with unique needs in an efficient and cost effective manner. Since 1983, Hamilton and other area districts have contracted for low-incident population disability services through a 66.0301 agreement.

State report card presented, interventions updated and approved

Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning Catherine Drago, Teaching and Learning Coordinator Whitney Roth, Assistant Superintendent of Special Services John Peterson and Special Services Coordinator Katie Foy presented information about the 2021-22 state report card. The Hamilton School District received an overall report card score of 80.3% which places the District in the Exceeds Expectations category. This places our District 18th out of 367 PK-12 Wisconsin school districts for overall score.

Achievement
The District received a score of 86 on academic achievement. Hamilton ranks #7 of the 367 PK-12 school districts in Wisconsin.

Growth scores
This shows the average amount of growth students are making as a direct result of our efforts. The Hamilton School District received a growth score of 67. Hamilton ranks #158 of the 367 PK-12 school districts in Wisconsin.

Target group outcomes
This examines students with the lowest test scores and is designed to bring focus on learners who need the most support while improving outcomes for all students. This priority area score combines academic achievement, growth, absenteeism and attending or graduation rate. The Hamilton School District’s score on this was the same or higher than 61.7% of districts in the state. 

On-track to graduate
This shows how students are progressing to complete their K-12 education. Hamilton School District’s score on this metric was the same or higher than 95.8% of districts in the state.

Action steps:

  • Continue implementation and honing our Professional Learning Communities (PLCs.)
  • Revise and implement a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for students who need extra instruction, intervention, and/or enrichment.
  • Review math practices and instructional shifts.
  • Review English Language Arts practices by conducting ELA Walkthroughs in all K-12 classrooms.
  • Review and revise delivery of special education specially designed instruction to include access to the general education curriculum in content areas while providing extra instruction.

Board members approved the appointments of:

  • Jessica Maglio, Paraprofessional Special Services at Silver Spring Intermediate School, effective January 17;
  • Kelly Flynn, Special Education Replacement Teacher at Maple Avenue Elementary School, effective January 23;
  • Elizabeth Zimmerman, Paraprofessional Special Services at Silver Spring Intermediate School, effective January 24;
  • Emily Poffinbarger, Paraprofessional Instructional and Supervision at Lannon Elementary School, effective January 30;
  • Arthur Anderson, School Psychologist at Hamilton High School, effective August 23;
  • Rachel Carlson, Grade 5 Humanities Teacher at Silver Spring Intermediate School, effective August 28; and
  • Alison Laubusch, Paraprofessional Special Services at Silver Spring Intermediate School, effective March 1.

Board members approved the retirement of:

  • Penelope Mamerow, Mathematics Teacher at Hamilton High School, effective at the end of the 2022‐23 school year.

  • Michael Murphy, Custodian I, p.m. at Hamilton High School, effective January 13;
  • Andrea Citowitz, Paraprofessional Educational Interpreter at Woodside Elementary and Hamilton High School, effective January 31;
  • Angela Ullenberg, Paraprofessional Special Services at Silver Spring Intermediate School, effective January 25;
  • Susan Scaife, Paraprofessional Special Services at Woodside Elementary School, effective February 1;
  • Abby Johnson, Math Interventionist at Templeton Middle School, effective February 21; and
  • Kelly McKeon, Paraprofessional Special Services at Maple Avenue Elementary School, effective March 3.
