Extra, co-curricular report, recommendations given
Hamilton High School offered 23 interscholastic sports and 36 separate student activities during the 2003-04 school year. Athletic-Activities Director Mike Gosz summarized accomplishments and presented recommendations in his co-curricular report to the School Board.
Gosz highlighted the accomplishments of athletes in girls’ swimming, wrestling, cross country, boys and girls track and poms who qualified for state competitions. He noted that the Drama Department earned a Critics’ Choice Award for “Candid,” musicians and actors performed for record crowds, the Robotics team won at regionals, and various athletic invitational tournaments were held at Hamilton High School.
Facility and equipment needs that were addressed in the past year include completion of the soccer stadium, relining of the track, new uniforms for girls’ soccer, cross country and wrestling, and reconditioning of the old wrestling mats.
Among recommendations in the report were:
- study the need for additional gym space for school programs and community use;
- update the weight room with new equipment;
- resurface the entire tennis court;
- consider additional pay for coaches whose teams advance in WIAA tournaments;
- replace the baseball fence; and
- explore ways to increase fall sports participation.
Budget schedule given
Business Services Director Bryan Ruud presented a written report outlining the 2005-04 budget timeline. Among the dates are:
- Dec. 8 — open forum for employees at 3:45 p.m. in the high school library;
- Feb. 11 — budgets due in final form with administrative signatures;
- March 21 — community input at 7:15 p.m. at Hamilton;
- April 18 — community input at 7:15 p.m. at Hamilton;
- May 3 — community input at 7:15 p.m. at Hamilton;
- May 16, — School Board approves final budget to present at citizens at 7:30 p.m. at Hamilton; and
- June 20 — Annual Public Hearing at 6:15 p.m. with Annual Meeting to follow in Hamilton Fine Arts Center.
Board allows administration to negotiate tower agreement
School Board members gave administrators approval to negotiate final details of a cell tower lease agreement. A Cingular Wireless tower will be placed on the Willow Springs Learning Center property. Placement of the tower on district property will generate about $12,000 each year. Cingular also will provide lighting for the play surface and parking area. Details regarding the tower style and the lighting have yet to be ironed out.
Auditor reports district financial statements in good order
Virnig and Associates, LLC, reported that the district’s basic financial statements conform with generally accepted accounting principles based on Government Auditing Standards. The report of the independent auditor was presented to the School Board.
