Dear Templeton Middle School Families,
This week we have reviewed the traffic flow patterns in our parking lot, including morning student drop off and after school parent pick up of students. Many of the observed concerns could be solved by drivers slowing down, being patient, allowing for more time, following the traffic flow pattern signs and suggested procedures. The following are reminders and changes that we expect all drivers, parents and high school students, to follow:
- Drive slowly through the parking lot
- Stay off of cell phones while driving to give full attention to traffic and students moving to their family’s car
- Follow ALL traffic flow pattern signs and student drop off areas
- Drivers using the west driveway may only enter this drive when coming from the east and only exit west when using this driveway. Law enforcement will be monitoring this driveway
Dropping students off in the morning:
- Students must be dropped off along the sidewalk in the front of the building. Students are not allowed to be dropped off anywhere else in the parking lot
- Drivers must pull as far forward as possible along the sidewalk in the front of the building. This will most likely mean cars will have to drive past the front door and further down the sidewalk to the car in front of you or to the end of the sidewalk
- When cars pull as far forward as possible, this allows more cars to safely drop off students along the sidewalk increasing the safety and efficiency of morning drop off
Picking up students after school:
- Families are encouraged to arrive after 2:50 pm. Entering the parking lot after 2:50 will allow buses to safely and efficiently leave the parking lot and for more cars to pick up students along the sidewalk in the front of the building
- Cars should not cut in front of buses or cut in between buses when buses are leaving the parking lot
- Students are allowed to wait in the front lobby and in the front of school for their rides
- Families are encouraged to pick up their students along the sidewalk in the front of school
- Student will only be allowed to cross at the designated corner where we have two staff positioned to safely stop traffic and let students cross
- Families that have made plans with their student to meet them in the parking lot, please try to park along the last row of designated parking spots, along the south end of the lot, along the grass or designate a parking spot that your student can locate you easily and move safely to your car.
- Students are discouraged from walking on the frontage road to meet an older sibling at HHS. TMS students should be picked up at TMS. If there are special circumstances where TMS students must meet their older sibling at HHS, parents are encouraged to work with TMS administration to ensure a safe plan.
- Students involved in SAS athletic training class or other activities at the high school are required to use the walking path behind the high school baseball diamond and football concession stand to get to the athletic center and/or high school. Students should exit out of door number 12 by the art rooms to get to this safe path.
Sincerely,
