Hamilton sees historic number of National Merit finalists

Six Hamilton High School seniors have been named finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Competition. It is the most finalists ever in the history of the school. The students are Ella Chevalier, Ella DeCleene, Margaret Flynn, Nikhita Nair, Mia Traverse and Cynthia Yan.

More than 1.5 million high school students entered this competition by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT (PSAT)/National Merit Scholarship qualifying test. In September, the six Hamilton students were named among the 16,000 semifinalists nationwide.

They became six of the country’s 15,000 finalists through verification of their outstanding academic records, endorsement by the school principal and SAT scores that confirm the their earlier test performance. The selection of some 7,500 Merit Scholarship winners from the group of finalists is now in progress and will be announced in March.
