Nihoris presented with award at state conference

Hamilton School District Police Liaison Officer Mark Nihoris was recognized Feb. 1 at the Associate Principals/School Resource Officers Conference in Madison. Nihoris was honored for being a driving force behind the Wisconsin School Resource Officers Association (WSROA).

Nihoris has been involved with WSROA since its inception as a member of the planning committee and advisory board. He developed and continues to maintain an online discussion group for school resource officers throughout Wisconsin.

Tina Hogle, assistant director of the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators, which supports the WSROA, said Nihoris’ commitment to serving students, school and community is exemplary.

“He holds a deep belief in the importance of having officers present in schools to help administrators deal with attendance, behavior, truancy, drug and alcohol use and many other issues which confront young people and the educators with whom they work,” Hogle said.

Nihoris, a Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department officer, has received several commendations from his department as a member of the SWAT team, a field training officer and school resource office. He is active in the Make-a -Wish Foundation of Wisconsin, including spearheading the Deputy Sheriff Association’s involvement in it.
