The Hamilton School District is actively recruiting community members age 55 and older for its impactful Seniors & Students volunteer program. This program pairs local seniors with students to support learning, build life skills and foster meaningful intergenerational connections. No special experience is necessary, just a caring heart, a little time and a willingness to engage with young minds.
The program features two primary components designed to fit volunteer interests and schedules.
- Senior Cafés: Volunteers gather with students every other week at either Lannon, Maple Avenue, Marcy or Woodside elementary schools to play games, share stories and do activities. Most gatherings take place during the students’ lunch periods.
- Pen Pal Program: Volunteers correspond throughout the school year with fourth-grade students. Letters are exchanged every other month. In the spring, volunteers are invited to end-of-year parties to meet their pen pals in person.
