Marcy Marketplace brings entrepreneurship to life for second graders

Second grade students at Marcy Elementary School recently put their creativity, critical thinking and entrepreneurial skills on display during the second annual Marcy Marketplace held June 5 in the school gymnasium. Families were invited to attend and learn about student developed business ideas centered around selling either a good or service.

Students researched and wrote informative and opinion pieces explaining how their business would benefit the community and then created display boards to showcase their ideas at the Marcy Marketplace. Some students even wore costumes or incorporated props to enhance their displays.

The Marcy Marketplace provides students with a hands-on introduction to the concepts of goods and services while helping them build a foundation in economics. Through the experience, students learn about entrepreneurship, decision-making, communication and how businesses contribute to a community.
