Hamilton celebrates skilled trades post graduation plans

Hamilton High School and Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC) celebrated student achievement and future career readiness during SkillsUSA Signing Day on May 6 in the school gym. The event highlighted the importance of skilled careers and the many opportunities available to students beyond high school. Four seniors were honored for their continued commitment to the skilled trades after high school graduation in June.

“SkillsUSA Signing Day is a way to recognize the value of career and technical education,” said Hamilton High School Associate Principal and Extended Learning Coordinator Marquea Goike. “We are proud of these students and excited to see them succeed in their chosen paths.”

Congratulations to the following Hamilton High School seniors:

  • William Bruss – attending WCTC, Carpentry
  • Bennet Hora – attending WCTC, CNC/Machining
  • John DeByl – attending WCTC, Tool and Die
  • Joshua DeLonge – full-time employment, construction and heavy equipment operation

“We are here to recognize the fact that Will Bruss is continuing his education, from all his applied engineering classes and SkillsUSA experiences here at Hamilton, to a carpentry program at WCTC,” Hamilton High School Applied Engineering Teacher and SkillsUSA Advisor Alan Mamerow told those in attendance.

“I was quite impressed when Will asked me about who he should contact to learn more about continuing his SkillsUSA participation as a WCTC student,” Mamerow added. “I have never seen anyone from there compete in carpentry, so I am excited to hopefully watch him become the first collegiate SkillsUSA carpentry competitor in Wisconsin next year.”

SkillsUSA is an organization for students interested in pursuing careers or expanding their knowledge in skilled trades. Over 80 different contests are available in the state of Wisconsin. In its tenth year as a chapter, Hamilton’s team is advised by Applied Engineering and Technology teachers Alan Mamerow, Tom Schlueter and John Ziemer.
