Charger Robotics to Host Sussex Scrimmage at Hamilton High School

Charger Robotics invites community members, families and STEM supporters to attend the upcoming Sussex Scrimmage, a mock robotics competition to be held on Sunday, February 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Hamilton High School. The event is a unique opportunity to see student-designed robots in action and to meet the teams behind the technology.

“Sussex Scrimmage is our biggest event,” explains Hamilton High School junior Abbie Dong. “We use this not only as a way to help other teams better help their robots but also as a free accessible STEM event for people of all ages.”

The Sussex Scrimmage is a preseason-style event where teams from across Wisconsin participating in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) will test their robots on a full competition field. The event provides students the opportunity to practice match strategy, refine robot performance and collaborate with other teams in a realistic competition setting before official regional events begin.

“It is so fun to watch the robots, cheer for the team and see who wins the match,” explains Lori Konshak, whose son is a member of Charger Robotics. “The announcers provide a fun atmosphere, the room is full of energy and there is some amazing talent.”

“It’s the first time a lot of these robots are actually seeing a field and competing,” says Hamilton High School senior Disha Deepak. “There is a lot of hope in the air and a lot of energy as teams are trying to test their robots for the first time against other robots. A lot of teams are there for each other and to build each other up.”

“Not only can you see other teams compete and how their robots work,” adds Dong. “But we also have a kiddie area where kids can drive one of our robots and get hands-on experience.”

The event is free and open to the public. Families are encouraged to attend and learn more about opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Nonperishable food items will also be collected onsite and donated to Sussex Outreach Services (SOS).
