Second through fourth grade students at Maple Avenue Elementary School experienced a fun morning of physical activity and team building when the Green Bay Packers Football Outreach Camp visited on Friday, September 19.
“It’s a great way to get students moving throughout the school day,” explains Maple Avenue Fitness Education Teacher Chris Totero. “It was also very fun to see how the students came together to support and encourage one another. Every time someone dove for a catch or took part in one of the other drills, their peers were cheering them on!”
“I’m really happy to be here and have fun with all these fun activities,” shared Maple Avenue Fourth Grader Brady Kielblock.
Maple Avenue Fourth Grader Kenley Elgersma said the camp helps teach important lessons. “If you really want to accomplish your goal, like catching the football, you need to believe in yourself,” Elgersma explains. “You have to keep trying. If you don’t make it the first time, keep going until you make it.”
The camp allows students to dive for a touchdown, kick a ball, leap for a catch and participate in a relay race.
The Green Bay Packers Football Outreach Camp is a complimentary, grassroots program, which features educational benefits as well as recreational opportunities for kids in a safe and fun environment. Football Outreach Camps are coordinated in conjunction with the NFL PLAY 60 program. NFL PLAY 60 is designed to tackle childhood obesity by getting kids active through in-school, after-school and team-based programs

“I had so many students tell me how much fun they had. Even the students that were initially hesitant to participate because they didn’t know anything about football ended up having a great time,” adds Totero. “It isn’t really about football. It’s about being physically active and supporting one another.”
