Hamilton students honor local veterans with special parade

Hundreds of students from Silver Spring Intermediate School and Templeton Middle School showed their appreciation and support to local veterans during the annual Veterans Day Parade on November 10. Students dressed in red, white and blue lined the route holding handmade and heartfelt signs they created. The Templeton Middle School Pep Band performed patriotic music as well.

“Our students are very energetic and respectful when the veterans come through the route,” said Silver Spring Intermediate School Associate Principal Susan Schramka. “They enthusiastically cheer and are excited to look for their family members who may be participating.”

Veterans were encouraged to decorate their vehicles and include a sign with their name, branch and students they know. The parade route winds through both Silver Spring Intermediate School and Templeton Middle School campuses.

“We want to honor all veterans, not just those who are related to our students,” adds Schramka. “That is why this year we reached out to our local VFW to help spread the word and share our display of gratitude with as many people as possible.”

Participating veterans also received personalized thank you cards created by students.

All schools in the Hamilton School District celebrated veterans in a special way, from walking parades of gratitude to music programs, special assemblies and Walls of Honor that display pictures of loved ones who have served our country.
