Hamilton High School Drama Society invites the community to “Freaky Friday” May 6-8 in the Hamilton Fine Arts Center (HFAC). Shows begin at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and at 2 p.m. for the Sunday performance.
In this new musical, an overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically swap bodies and have just one day to put things right again before mom’s big wedding. “Freaky Friday,” which is based on the celebrated novel by Mary Rodgers and two hit Disney films, is a hilarious, contemporary update on an American classic in which a mother and daughter really see what it is to be a family and experience each other’s lives first-hand. By spending a day in each other’s shoes, Katherine and Ellie come to appreciate one another’s struggles, learn self-acceptance and realize the immeasurable love and mutual respect that bond a mother and daughter.
This stage version gives a fresh, modern point of view with the action squarely in the social media age, using a high school Instagram scavenger hunt as the dramatic thrust of the story. “Freaky Friday” delivers a crowd-pleasing, family-friendly musical with sharp wit and buoyant tunes.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for students and senior citizens when purchased online at www.hamiltonfineartscenter.com. Tickets are also available 30 minutes before the show at the HFAC Box Office for $12 for adults, $10 for students and seniors.
