Two Hamilton schools to host drive-through Veterans Day parades

Maple Avenue Elementary and Silver Spring Intermediate schools will host drive-through parades Nov. 11 to honor the service of veterans. The parades will be from 10 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. at Maple Avenue and from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Silver Spring. Local veterans and veterans related to students or staff are welcome to participate.Flag

Veterans are encouraged to decorate their vehicles and include a sign with their name, branch and students they know. Family members assisting veterans with driving are welcome.

Students and staff dressed in patriotic colors will line the parade route with flags, signs and banners to recognize the participating veterans. Silver Spring will have an opening flag ceremony, singing of “The Star Spangled Banner” and complimentary treat bags for veterans.

Maple Avenue Elementary School is located at W240 N6059 Maple Ave., Sussex. The parade route starts at the main entrance and follows the circle drive in front of school.

Silver Spring Intermediate School is located at N58 W22350 Silver Spring Dr., Sussex. The parade route begins at the west entrance and continues in front of the school with a left turn to the back of the building and on to the Templeton war memorial. Veterans can park near the memorial or exit the parade at the church. The parade route will be marked.
