Hamilton School District students, staff and families will continue their tradition of observing Veterans Day with modified activities in light of COVID-19 restrictions.
Willow Springs Learning Center
Willow Springs 4K students and staff will honor veterans Nov. 11 during classroom assemblies. Children will watch a slideshow and sing songs about veterans with their buddy class. Students are invited to wear red, white and blue for the program.
Lannon Elementary School
Lannon’s Veterans Day celebration will look different than in years past. A special presentation recognizing veterans and current military members will be created using photos and videos submitted by students and families. The presentation will identify the student, veteran and branch served and personal comments from veterans or students. It will be shared with the Lannon School community.
Maple Avenue Elementary School, W240 N6059 Maple Avenue, Sussex
Maple Avenue Elementary school will host a drive-through parade Nov. 11 from 10 a.m. to 10:20 a.m.to honor the service of veterans. Local veterans and those related to students or staff are welcome.
Veterans are encouraged to decorate their vehicles and include a sign with their name, branch and students they know. Family members assisting veterans with driving are welcome.
Students and staff dressed in patriotic colors will line the parade route with flags, signs and banners.
The parade route starts at the main entrance and follows the circle drive in front of school. Please call the school office with any questions at (262) 246-4220.
Marcy Elementary School
Marcy Elementary School will celebrate Veterans Day Nov. 11 with a video assembly that will include important components of past in-person assemblies:
- A slide show with photos of veterans related to Marcy students will be shared with students throughout the week.
- A fourth grade Boy Scout troop will present the colors in a video.
- A variety of fourth grade students will explain how respect is shown to veterans.
Video clips of area veterans will include comments about their branch of service as well as highlights of what they learned from being a service person.
Woodside Elementary School
A slideshow honoring relatives of Woodside students who are past or current members of the U.S. Armed Forces will be shared with the Woodside School community.
Because the food drive that is normally conducted during the Veterans Day music program will not take place, Woodside families are encouraged to donate funds directly to the Sussex Area Food Pantry.
Silver Spring Intermediate School, N58 W22350 Silver Spring Drive, Sussex
Silver Spring Intermediate will host a drive-through parade Nov. 11 from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. to honor the service of veterans. Local veterans and veterans related to students or staff are welcome to participate.
Veterans are encouraged to decorate their vehicles and include a sign with their name, branch and students they know. Family members assisting veterans with driving are welcome.
Students and staff dressed in patriotic colors will line the parade route with flags, signs, banners and poppies. Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts will post the colors at the start of the parade and the chorus will sing “The Star Spangled Banner.” Treat bags will be handed out to veterans.
The parade route begins at the west entrance and continues in front of the school with a left turn to the back of the building and on to the Templeton war memorial. Veterans can park near the memorial or exit the parade at the church. The parade route will be marked. Please call the school office at (262) 820-2080 with questions.
Templeton Middle School
“Walking with Our American Heroes” is the theme for this year’s recognition of veterans at Templeton. A video will be created and segments shown to students during the week of Veterans Day. It will include activities held during past programs including:
- photos of Templeton community veterans;
- the band director playing taps in front of the Templeton Veterans Memorial;
- winner of the Patriots Pen reading his or her piece; and
- community veterans sharing information about themselves and what it means to be in their branch of the service.
Hamilton High School
Athletic-Activities Director Michael Gosz will read a commemorative passage about the historical significance of Veterans Day which will honor the brave service men and women. A moment of silence will be observed.
