Woodside Elementary School kindergartners in Peter Dargatz’s class recently donated $542 and greeting cards to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Students participated in a social studies unit on the difference between wants and needs. The unit provided opportunities for students to earn tickets to get items they wanted or turn them in to Dargatz who pledged to provide 25 cents to Children’s Hospital for every ticket submitted.
All 22 kindergartners chose to donate. The next step challenged students to talk with their families about taking the money that would have been spent on one of their holiday wants and contribute it to the classroom donation.
