Hamilton High School senior Alan Mamerow came home with a first place trophy from the 67th Annual DECA International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, Calif. It is a first in Hamilton’s 11-year history of DECA competitions. He competed in the category of automotive services against 160 other students. He earned a berth at the international competition by taking first place at district and state level events earlier in the year.
Mamerow and Hamilton DECA advisor and business education and marketing educator Skip Hay were among 16,000 DECA members from 50 states and Canada who attended the conference. During the school year, approximately 120,000 of DECA’s 200,000 student members take part in regional and state competitions designed to simulate real-life business scenarios and test students’ academic understanding and skills development. The top state winners put their talents to the test during the program’s final round of competition in Anaheim.
DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. DECA enhances the preparation for college and careers by providing co-curricular programs that integrate into classroom instruction, apply learning, connect to business and promote competition.
