Woodside plans November, December music events

Woodside Elementary School students will be involved in numerous musical activities during November and December as part of its involvement in the Arts in Community Education (ACE) program with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra.
ACE performance for first-graders – Nov. 23 at 1:30 p.m. in the Large Group Area
  • The Milwaukee Jazz Experience uses interactive storytelling and song to explore the cultural origins of jazz.
  • Performers are vocalist Adekola Adedapo, pianist Richard Crabtree and bassist Harold Miller.
ACE performance for fourth-graders – Dec. 1 at 2:45 p.m.  in the Gym
  • Performers from the American Indian Center present music and dancing.
  • The presentation includes explanations of the purpose, meaning and style of Indian regalia, drumming and dance forms.
“The Nutcracker” music program – Dec. 9 at 2:30 p.m.  in the Gym
  • Third grade students tell the story of “The Nutcracker” through singing, dancing and acting.
  • This program is directed by Rose Frohna, Woodside music teacher.
ACE performance for kindergartners – Dec. 16 at 12:15 p.m. in the Large Group Area
  • Four musicians from the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra introduce students to the string family of the orchestra.
  • The performers are violinist Mary Terranova, violist Sara Harmelink, cellist Kathleen Collisson and bassist Laura Snyder.
ACE performance for third-graders – Dec. 17 at 10 a.m. in the Large Group Area
  • The Brass Quartet from the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra explores the elements of music and the spatial-acoustic characteristics of sound.
  • The performers are trumpeter Dennis Najoom, trumpeter Donald Sipe, trombonist Richard Kimball and French horn player Kristof Pipal.
Woodside is one of 21 schools in the area participating in ACE, which is nationally recognized as an exemplary model for arts education. Heather Cheslock and Rose Frohna are the music teachers at Woodside, located at W236 N7465 Woodside Road, Sussex.
