Maple Avenue students sponsor food drive

Maple Avenue Elementary School fifth-graders are sponsoring a schoolwide Food for Families food drive as part of the school’s Uniting Kids and Community (UKC) Program. Students are collecting non-perishable food items Nov. 3-12  to benefit the Sussex Food Pantry.

The food drive is one of several service projects of the UKC Program, which is co-led by school guidance counselor Colleen Casper and fifth-grade teachers Michelle Schultz, Stephanie Obermyer and Christina Garley. Fifth-graders will play an active role throughout the year in planning, advertising and conducting service projects that support their school, community and world. The goal of the program is to help students learn the value of civic responsibility and problem-solving as they make connections within their school and in the local and global communities.

Maple Avenue Elementary School is located at W240 N6059 Maple Ave., Sussex.
