Generations will come together May 30 as Lannon, Maple Avenue and Woodside elementary schools host annual Pen Pal Parties. At the parties, fourth-graders will meet their senior citizen pen pals with whom they have corresponded since fall.
The Pen Pal Project is part of the district’s Seniors and Students Program, a collaboration between the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Waukesha County and the Hamilton School District. The goal of the project is to give students letter-writing experiences while they learn about life in the past through stories shared with their pen pals.
- Maple Avenue fourth-graders will meet their pen pals and enjoy dessert and crafts from 9:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the school, W240 N6059 Maple Ave. in Sussex.
- Lannon’s party is from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the school, 7145 N. Lannon Road in Lannon. The party will feature a variety of Wisconsin-themed food, opportunity for conversation and a school tour.
- Woodside’s party is from 2 to 3 p.m. Students will share writing projects and work on one with their pen pals. Students also will perform songs from their spring concert, “The Jungle Book.” Snacks will be served. Woodside Elementary School is located at W236 N7465 Woodside Road in Sussex.
