Young women receive math, science awards

Hamilton High School senior Angela Zapf and junior Stephanie Smith are recipients of the Society of Women Engineers’ Certificate of Merit. The students were selected as nominees from Hamilton and chosen because of their exceptional performance in science and mathematics.

The Michigan Technological University Student Section of the Society of Women Engineers has been participating in the Certificate of Merit Program since 1973. The program seeks to recognize young women for their accomplishments and introduce them to the field of engineering. Some 542 students across Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota have been recognized this year.
