Konyn to compete in national scholarship program

Hamilton High School senior Courtney Konyn was nominated to compete in the Principal’s Leadership Award (PLA) scholarship program. Hamilton Principal David Furrer announced the nomination, which places Konyn in the national competition. Some 150 national PLA winners will be chosen this spring to receive $1,000 college scholarships.

“Courtney Konyn possesses the strength of character to support any challenge she will meet,” Furrer said. “Courtney is a strong leader who exudes confidence. As a 4-year member of our Student Council, she served as class president during her ninth and tenth grade years and Student Council president in grade 12. Her performance in all of these areas of leadership, as well as her ability to excel in her academics, is exemplary.”

High school principals from across the country could nominate one of their student leaders. Nominees were selected based on leadership skills, participation in service organizations and clubs, achievements in the arts and sciences, employment experience and academic record. They also were required to write an essay.

The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), which administers the National Honor Society, the National Junior Honor Society, and the National Association of Student Councils, sponsors the program that is funded by Herff Jones, Inc.
