Hamilton announces second school resource officer

Hamilton School District is pleased to welcome Deputy Alex Arteaga as our newest school resource officer. Deputy Arteaga is a four-year veteran of the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department and will be stationed primarily at Templeton Middle School. Deputy Arteaga, who is a proud Hamilton High School (HHS) alum, will work closely alongside Deputy Leah Estes who has been the district’s school resource officer stationed at HHS for the past six years.

“We are very glad to welcome Deputy Arteaga to our Hamilton School District community,” shares Superintendent Paul Mielke, Ph.D. “Safety remains our school community’s top priority. Having a second school resource officer on campus every day helps to ensure a safe, supportive and welcoming environment for students across all of our school buildings.”

Prior to the 2025-26 school year, Hamilton School District was the only district in Waukesha County that did not employ at least two resource officers.

“Returning to the school district where I graduated from to hold the important role of school resource officer is a great privilege,” shares Deputy Arteaga. “I look forward to getting to know each and every student.”

While school resource officers are stationed at the high school and middle school, the deputies visit all school buildings. “Every year I visit classrooms to teach intermediate and middle school students about the dangers of social media and illegal drug use,” explains Deputy Estes. “It’s important for our younger students to understand such risks before they enter high school.”

“Having Deputy Arteaga join our team gives us incredibly important additional resources to assist with things such as school violence prevention, traffic supervision, educational presentations and a prompt response to safety concerns.”
