Hamilton drama presents “Number the Stars”

Hamilton High School Drama Society presents “Number the Stars” Nov. 10-12 at the Hamilton Fine Arts Center (HFAC). Shows begin at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. for the Sunday performance.

Children’s author Lois Lowry has never been one to shy away from difficult subjects, and with her Newbery Award-winning novel “Number the Stars” she confronts the terror and chaos of the Holocaust.
Adapted for the stage by Douglas W. Larche, “Number the Stars” follows the adventures of 10-year-old Annemarie Johansen, who lives in Nazi-occupied Copenhagen during World War II. As the play opens, we learn that the Johansens have endured many hardships during the war — most importantly, the death of Annemarie’s older sister, Lise.

But when the Nazis begin targeting Denmark’s Jewish population — including Annemarie’s best friend Ellen — the family realizes it can no longer sit by and watch history unfold. With help from Lise’s daring fiancé Peter and the mysterious Uncle Henrik, Annemarie and her parents embark on a dangerous mission to save their friends.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students and seniors. Tickets may be purchased at www.hamiltonfineartscenter.com or at the box office 30 minutes before each performance.

The Hamilton Fine Arts Center is located at W220 N6151 Town Line Rd., Sussex.
