Winners Named in Optimist Club Essay Contest

Three Hamilton High School students won awards in the Optimist Club of Sussex, Lisbon, Lannon and Butler essay contest. This year’s essay topic was “How My Acts of Service Help Me Understand What My Community Means to Me.” The top finishers were:

  • Junior Maliha Aroush – gold medal and $150 scholarship check
  • Junior Kensington Martin – silver medal and $100 check
  • Junior Vyas Karra – bronze medal and $50 check

Aroush’s essay advances to the next level of competition.

Optimist International is one of the world’s largest service club organizations with approximately 80,000 adult and youth members in 2,500 clubs throughout the world. Its mission is “By providing hope and positive vision, Optimists bring out the best in youth, our communities, and ourselves.” Optimists conduct positive service projects that reach more than six million young people each year.
