Hamilton hosts inaugural Post-Secondary Planning Night for students and families

Hamilton High School welcomed students and families on January 14, for a well attended Post-Secondary Planning Night. This evening event was designed to help students and their families explore the many pathways available after high school.

“Planning for life after high school can feel overwhelming,” shares Hamilton High School Counselor Kristin Hasbrook. “Our goal was to bring clear, honest and practical information directly to students and their families. I am very proud of our staff and our community partners who came together to support our students. It was wonderful to see families engaged and feeling more confident about next steps and possible paths after high school,” Hasbrook adds.

The event brought together educators, community partners and professionals to provide students with valuable information to support future college, career and military planning. Families had the opportunity to attend a variety of breakout sessions tailored to diverse interests and post-secondary goals.

“Post-Secondary Planning Night is about empowering students and families with knowledge,” explains Hamilton High School Associate Principal and Extended Learning Coordinator Marquea Goike. “Whether students are considering college, the workforce, apprenticeships or military service, this event helps them take confident next steps toward their future.”

Presenters shared practical guidance, answered questions and helped demystify the many choices students face after graduation. Breakout sessions covered a wide range of topics, including:

  • Youth Apprenticeship pathways
  • Skilled trades opportunities
  • Understanding the real cost of college
  • Employment pathways and degree options
  • Early College Credit and Start College Now programs
  • College essay writing and letters of recommendation
  • Public vs. private college options
  • NCAA eligibility and college athletics
  • Military career pathways
  • Tips for navigating college fair visits

Due to the overwhelmingly positive feedback, the event will be offered again next year.

Hamilton High School extends its appreciation to all presenters, staff and families who contributed to the success of the evening and looks forward to continuing to support students in their post-secondary planning journey.
