Three Hamilton High School students won awards in the Optimist Club of Sussex, Lisbon, Lannon and Butler essay contest. This year’s topic was “How Optimism Has Paved My Road to Success.”
- Junior Emily Schmidt took first place and $250 prize
- Junior Maya Bynan took second place and a $150 prize
- Senior Lucas Vera Paez earned third place and a $100 award
Winners were also given a medallion for their success in the 700-800 word essay contest.
Schmidt’s essay advances to the next level of competition.
Optimist International is one of the world’s largest service club organizations with 80,000 adult and youth members in 2,500 clubs throughout the world. Its mission is “By providing hope and positive vision, Optimists bring out the best in youth, our communities, and ourselves.” Optimists conduct positive service projects that reach more than six million young people each year.
