Hamilton Sings celebrates choir students across district

Choir students from Silver Spring Intermediate School, Templeton Middle School and Hamilton High School gathered to perform a free concert for the community on March 13 inside the Hamilton Fine Arts Center. Hamilton Sings is an annual event that was created to give choir students in grades 5-12 an opportunity to work together and sing for each other in a positive and meaningful environment.

“I think coming together is mainly about building community in the choir department and getting the younger kids excited about furthering their music education,” said Hamilton High School senior Abram Bois. “Choir is very much community based and we are very much family.”

Hamilton High School and Templeton Middle School Music Teacher Sarah Plamann says Hamilton Sings is definitely about community. “Singing is a very personal experience and being able to share that experience with so many others is a really special, magical thing” she says. “To be able to create music across our buildings and district is special. My hope is that all of the students feel that too. I also hope it encourages them to come back to choir year after year, not just through their time in the district, but to value music and always keep it as part of their lives.”

This is Hamilton High School freshman Prasunaa Priya Kalyanaraman’s first year as a choir student. “This was really cool because it brought the entire choir community together. It helps to see how big of an impact we are making.”

“It is super nice to meet all the kids and inspire them to continue,” said Hamilton High School junior Kaitlyn Lewandowski. ”I think it’s a nice chance for them to see what it’s like to be in the high school choir and get to know some of us.”
