Two Silver Spring Intermediate School students earned awards for their submissions in the 2021-22 Elks Grand Lodge Americanism Essay Contest. Fifth-grader Miles Khoury took first place and sixth-grader Paige Thompson took second place in the Waukesha Elks Lodge 400 competition. The contest is for students in grades 5-8.

This year’s theme was “What Does it Mean to Love Your Country?” Students were asked to respond to the question in an essay that did not exceed 300 words.

Waukesha Elks Lodge Secretary Arlyn Clarksen presented Thompson and Khoury with cash awards for their success. Their essays will move on to district-level competition.
