Hamilton team places second in state Battle of the Books

Hamilton High School students Sophia Heyn, Sydney Vande Hei, Riya Mathews, Evelyn Rusk and Elizabeth Boehm (alternate) took second place in the senior division at the Wisconsin Educational Media & Technology Association Battle of the Books competing against 48 teams statewide. Hamilton has placed in the top three for the last six years.

The senior division reading list includes 20 books that students read deeply to retain information about plot, character, theme, setting and other elements. The team will receive a plaque and students will receive individual certificates.

Battle of the Books is a fun, academic-based statewide competition designed to promote a love of reading among students. It encourages students to read a variety of books and remember information about the plots, characters and settings. Every question asked in a battle is answered by the title and author of the book. Battle of the Books advisor is Hamilton library-media specialist Jacque Gorski.
