District students named winners in Optimist Club essay contest

Three Hamilton School District students won awards in the Optimist Club of Sussex, Lisbon, Lannon and Butler essay contest.

  • Hamilton High School senior Aayush Iyengar took first place and $150 prize.
  • Hamilton junior Jasleen Kaur took second place and a $100 prize.
  • Silver Spring Intermediate School sixth-grader Ainsley Myhre earned third place and a $50 award.

Winners were also given a medallion for their success in the 700-800 word essay contest. This year’s topic was “How Does an Optimistic Mindset Change My Tomorrow?”

Awards will be presented to the winners at the March 14 Optimist Club meeting held in the high school library.

Optimist International is one of the world’s largest service club organizations with 80,000 adult and youth members in 2,500 clubs throughout the world. Its mission is “By providing hope and positive vision, Optimists bring out the best in youth, our communities, and ourselves.” Optimists conduct positive service projects that reach more than 6 million young people each year.
