Hamilton High School juniors Maja Pechanach, Ashley Velasquez, Cynthia Yan and Ian Markano and sophomore Aayush Iyengar qualified to participate in the Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) High School State Honors Orchestra, Band and Jazz Ensemble for the 2020-21 school year. Junior Mia Traverse was named as a high priority alternate. These students were among 426 students chosen to participate from more than 1,600 auditions throughout the state.State_Honors_Logo_2color

The orchestra will be under the direction of internationally renowned conductor Thomas Dickey, Ph.D., from Oklahoma State University and the band  under the direction of Pamela Bustos, Ph.D., of the University of Wisconsin-Superior. The Jazz Ensemble will be conducted by Michael Dease of Michigan State University. Students will attend a week-long summer music camp with their clinicians.

The WSMA State Honors Music Project provides musically talented students with an opportunity to rehearse and perform with the nation’s finest conductors in a professional, highly disciplined setting. Selected through a rigorous audition process, students are challenged to perform at their musical best throughout the short rehearsal period, which culminates with a performance at the Overture Center in Madison at the Wisconsin State Music Conference held in October.
