Hamilton High School juniors Maanya Kashyap and Mackenzie Joranlien were selected to participate in a program that provides high school students with an educational experience in biomedical research, clinical research and technology development.
Students Understanding Principles of Research Education through Medicine, Engineering and Science (SUPREMES) is an academic yearlong program conducted by the Medical College of Wisconsin, Marquette University and the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Research Institute.
Joranlien and Kashyap will further their research understanding through state-of-the-art technology, scientific scholarly writing and laboratory techniques and will apply those skills in laboratory investigations. They will also participate as an active research team member, collaborate with science and health professionals to strengthen their understanding of critical issues in basic science research and present their findings.
Eligibility requirements include good academic standing with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, a letter describing personal interest in the program, two letters of recommendation and completion or current enrollment in biology, chemistry, algebra I and II and two years of English composition.
