Milwaukee music group recognizes Hamilton teacher


waiteCivic Music Association (CMA) of Milwaukee will recognize Hamilton High School Band Director Jon Waite as its music teacher of the year. The CMA Educator Awards Ceremony for Waite and other music educators will be May 4 at the Humphrey Scottish Rite Masonic Center, Milwaukee.

Waite, a teacher at Hamilton for 12 years, directs instrumental music including Charger Marching Band, Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo, Pep Band and various chamber groups. In addition, he has been symphonic and jazz ensemble director and saxophone instructor at the Fine Arts Camp Europe near Prague. Waite earned his bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point.

CMA recognizes teachers who have shown dedication and contributions to music programs in the Milwaukee area. Nominations are open to educators in the five counties of Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Washington, Waukesha and Racine.

Active since 1918 and one of Milwaukee’s oldest arts organizations, Civic Music Association of Milwaukee provides music education and performance opportunities for young musicians. More than 95 percent of its programming involves students 18 years old or younger who are offered unique opportunities to refine their skills and practice their craft through private lessons, auditions, workshops, competition and performance.
