Woodside Elementary School students will be making and appreciating music this in April. Highlights include:
Milwaukee Ballet – April 7, 1:40 – 2:15 p.m., Woodside Gym
The Milwaukee Ballet will perform an interactive program in which students try the five basic positions of ballet. Also, students will be selected to help choreograph a dance. Students will discover why ballet dancers stretch before dancing and how music and dance fit together. The performance is brought to Woodside through the Arts in Community Education (ACE) program, an educational partnership between the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and select local schools.
“Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka KIDS” – April 12
– 9-9:45 a.m. in Woodside gym for fifth grade
– 2:30-3:15 p.m. in Woodside gym for fourth grade
– 5:45-6:30 p.m. at Hamilton Fine Arts Center for fourth grade
– 7:00-7:45 p.m. at Hamilton Fine Arts Center for fifth grade
Woodside fourth- and fifth-graders used creativity, innovation and collaboration to prepare for their musical based on the book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by Roald Dahl. Students collaborated as they choreographed a class dance, and several students helped prepare costumes and props. The opening number features numerous student-created props that look like larger-than-life pieces of candy. This musical’s interweaving of music, drama, dance, visual arts and student literature is one example of arts integration that takes place at various grade levels throughout the year at Woodside.
Heather Cheslock is the music teacher at Woodside, which is located at W236 N7465 Woodside Road, Sussex. The Hamilton Fine Arts Center is located at W220 N6151 Town Line Road, Sussex.
