Templeton Middle School eighth-grader Sarah Cross placed first and Maple Avenue Elementary School fifth-grader Mackenzie Jene received honorable mention among applicants throughout Wisconsin in the Letters About Literature contest sponsored by the United States Library of Congress.
Cross and Jene are invited to an awards ceremony April 17 at the Wisconsin Rapids Community Theater in Wisconsin Rapids during the Wisconsin Literary Bash/Prairie Chicken Festival. Cross’ letter will be entered in the national contest.
To enter, readers write a personal letter to an author, living or dead, from any genre – fiction or nonfiction, contemporary or classic – explaining how that author’s work changed the student’s way of thinking about the world or themselves.
