Maple Avenue students give to Full and Fuzzy Drive

Maple Avenue Elementary School fifth-graders sponsored a schoolwide Full and Fuzzy Drive. The drive was implemented Jan. 6-15 in conjunction with a countywide food drive that celebrates the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Maple Avenue students collected nonperishable food items and new or gently used outdoor winterwear for children and adults such as coats, hats, scarves, gloves, boots and snowpants. The collected items will be donated to the Sussex Food Pantry to help the needy in the local community.

The Full and Fuzzy Drive is a community service project of Maple Avenue’s Uniting Kids and Community Program, which encourages students to make connections within their school along with local and global communities through a variety of projects. Students learn the value of civic responsibility and problem solving as they work through solutions to community issues.

In preparation for the drive, fifth-graders worked in small teams to make posters, create a school donation location and raise awareness through announcements to the student body.

Maple Avenue Elementary School is located at W240 N6059 Maple Ave., Sussex.
