Templeton eighth-grader Derek Stone qualified for the state competition in the National Geographic Bee based on the results of the written test he submitted.
All Templeton students participated in the preliminary round of the annual National Geographic Bee this year by taking a 25-question written test. The school’s top-scoring students competed in the semi-final round in which they answered oral questions. Stone was Templeton’s winner and completed another written test to determine if he would qualify for state competition. The top 100 scores in the state qualify for the state level competition.
The state Geographic Bee will be April 4 at St. Norbert College in DePere.
The National Geographic Society provides an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., for state champions who advance in May to the National Geographic Bee championship. The final round of the 2008 Geographic Bee, featuring Alex Trebek, will air on the National Geographic Channel and public television stations.
