Templeton hosts cultural celebration Feb. 29

Templeton Middle School eighth-graders in French, German and Spanish classes will learn the significance of celebrations held in various world cultures as their school hosts its own Mardi Gras-Karneval-Carnaval. The Templeton small gym will be the site Feb. 29 from 12:45 p.m. to 1:37 p.m. where world languages classes will experience the excitement of these traditional holidays.

Students will change into traditional costumes and enter a contest with the winners crowned king and queen of the event. Each class will prepare a banner, representing its language of study. Students also will prepare small floats that will be paraded at the event and entered into a contest. Students will have a chance to make and sample authentic food items from France, Spain and Germany. Live music will be provided by Dick Strauss on his accordion.

The goal of the event is to give students an understanding of the history of Mardi Gras, Karneval and Carnaval in a fun setting that motivates them to continue their language studies for the remainder of the school year.

Templeton Middle School is located at N59 W22490 Silver Spring Rd., Sussex.
