The Hamilton School Board approved the appointment Aug.21 of Margaret “Margee” Tackes, Ed.D., as the Willow Springs Learning Center principal.
Tackes, a former teacher and administrator, is the administrative leadership director at Alverno College. She began her educational career teaching elementary school children in Milwaukee Public Schools. She was assistant principal at Custer High School and then at Shorewood High School before becoming principal at Shorewood Intermediate School. She retired two years ago after serving for 10 years as principal at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School in Menomonee Falls.
Tackes received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She earned her doctorate in leadership, learning and service from Cardinal Stritch University where she later taught..
“I believe parents and community members will find Dr. Tackes’ welcoming nature as well as her knowledge and understanding of young children to be an asset to an already exemplary staff of educators,” Hamilton Superintendent Kathleen Cooke said.
Tackes fills the half-time position that is vacant with the resignation John Vitale, who had been Willow Spring principal and special education administrative support. Vitale accepted a teaching position in Pewaukee where he also will coach football.
Willow Spring Learning Center, located at W220 N6660 Town Line Road in Menomonee Falls, serves 274 students who participate in the district’s optional half-day kindergarten program for 4-year-olds.
