Lannon Elementary School fourth-grader Brian Dennis emerged as the champion of the 2006 Chess Tournament. The winner was determined in the final tournament March 29 after six rounds of play. Fifth-grader Ryan Golner took second place, and third-grader Lyle Hendrickson took home the bronze.
Lannon’s Chess Club challenged the minds of more than 40 students this year who met after school to learn and play chess. In addition, parent volunteers and chess teachers from Templeton Middle School and Hamilton High School assisted Lannon teacher Laureanna Raymond with the club. Raymond expressed appreciation to all the students and families who helped make the club and tournament possible.
