One champion and four finalists emerged from the 2006 District Spelling Bee held Jan. 20 at Templeton Middle School. The District Spelling Bee draws qualifying students in grades 5-8 from Hamilton School District middle and elementary schools as well as area private schools.
Adam Pagenkopf, a Templeton eighth-grader, was named champion. Finalists who will advance with Pagenkopf to the regional bee are:
- Michael Newman, Templeton seventh-grader;
- Daniel Thompson, Templeton eighth-grader;
- Andy Kerber, St. Agnes eighth-grader; and
- Brandon Wirth, Templeton sixth-grader.
In recognition of their achievement, each student was awarded a trophy and will receive a certificate and spelling bee pin.
Students who won classroom spelling bees vied for the honor of participating in the district spelling bee. The five top spellers in the district event will compete Feb. 16 at the regional bee in Oconomowoc. Regional winners continue to the Wisconsin spelling bee in hopes of qualifying for the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. in June.
Templeton reading specialist Patricia Sankey coordinated the event.
