Maple Avenue Elementary School third-graders traveled to Madison Dec. 12 to meet with Wisconsin First Lady Jessica Doyle at the Governor’s Mansion as part of “Reading Day at the Residence.” The students discussed books with Doyle, met a published author and took a tour of the house.
Doyle talked about selections from her book club, Read On Wisconsin. Students met Steve Kihm, Madison native and author of a December pick for the book club, “The Lost Candy Bar.” Doyle provided cookies and juice, and gave each student a Scholastic book of his or her choice. Students visited the Capitol Building later that afternoon as part of their study of government.
Read On Wisconsin is an online book club for students and educators across the state. Each month throughout the school year, Doyle recommends books for age groups ranging from preschool to high school.
