Lannon Elementary School students will kick off Red Ribbon Week Oct. 24 with a dynamic presentation by illusionist Pat O’Hearn. Doves, rabbits, comedy, illusions and audience participation will be part of O’Hearn’s “Magic with a Message” show.
Two shows will be presented:
- Students in grades 3-5 will learn about making good choices, the influence of peer pressure and saying no to drugs from 1:15 p.m. to 2 p.m; and
- Kindergartners through second-graders will hear why they should not tease and the importance of listening to parents and teachers from 2:15 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Red Ribbon Week, celebrated nationally since 1988, commemorates the life of Enrique Camarena, a drug enforcement officer who died in the fight against drugs.
Activities are planned throughout the week to remind Lannon students to make healthy choices and say no to drugs. In addition to seeing the performances, students will wear red on Monday. Tuesday’s theme is “Bad choices and I do not mix” and students will wear crazy clothes that don’t match. Sporting sweat pants and shirts on Wednesday, students will hear that “Making good choices is no sweat.”
Lannon Elementary School is located at 7145 N. Lannon Road, Lannon.
