Hamilton students take honors at workshop

Six Hamilton High School Lance yearbook staff members and their advisor came home with top awards from the 2005 Walsworth National Yearbook Workshop in Itasca, Ill. Seniors Christina Zimmerman and Kayla Miller and juniors Candace Greupink, Morgan Elmore, Brittany Henninger and Kathryn Cook participated June 28-30 in the workshop. Advisor Pam Mierow accompanied the students.

Greupink, Elmore, Henninger and Cook tied for first place and earned a $100 credit from the Walsworth Publishing Company for work they completed in the workshop’s yearbook class. Workshop organizers said it was the first time four students tied for the first place award.

Zimmerman and Miller took second place in the Editorial Leadership category and earned a $50 credit to spend on theme development for the 2005-06 yearbook.

The students participated in the camp to learn yearbook skills and develop next year’s yearbook theme. Students learned about design, desktop publishing, theme development and editorial content.

The entire 23-member Lance staff will attend a workshop at Carroll College at the end of July.
