Templeton Middle School eighth-grader Erin Welcenbach qualified for the state competition in the national Geographic Bee based on results of her written test.
All Templeton students participated in the preliminary round of the annual National Geographic Bee this year by taking a 25-question written test. The school’s top-scoring students competed in the semi-final round in which they answered oral questions. Welcenbach was Templeton’s winner and completed another written test to determine if she would qualify for state competition. The top 100 scores in the state qualify for the state level competition.
The state Geographic Bee will be held on April 1 at Beaver Dam High School.
The National Geographic society provides an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., for state champions who advance in May to the national Geographic Bee National championship. The final round of the 2005 Geographic Bee, featuring Alex Trebek, will air nationally on the National Geographic Channel and public television stations.
